Ever wanted to learn how to play a musical instrument?

Ever wanted to learn how to play a musical instrument?

Ever wanted to join a brass band?

Wells City Band is very fortunate to have it’s own Training Section. We offer both individual and group tuition from age 8 to 100!

Once the basic few basic notes are learnt we encourage our learners to join in with the Training Section. Here they begin to understand the basic principles of playing as a group, watching a conductor and all essential skills needed for their progression in to the Main Band.

2018 has been very successful for the Training Section with three learners moving to the Main Band and three moving from beginners to intermediates. Our other learners are progressing well with their progress sheets.

The Training Section has also been involved in concerts throughout 2018; at the Christmas concert, a 70th Birthday Surprise, the massed bands day at the Wells Bandstand and our summer Training Section showcase ‘chip’ concert.

If you are interested in learning to play a brass instrument in our Training Section or are someone who hasn’t played for a while and wants to get back into it or if you are an experienced player wishing to join our Main Band please contact Jane Hill  on 01749  675668 or complete our contact form.

Certificate of Grateful Recognition

In November Wells City Band were invited to play at the commemoration of 100 Years since the guns fell silent at the end of the First World War.  This occasion was part of the National Commemoration of “Battle’s Over”, a unique series of events involving organisations and communities the length and breadth of the country.

The band performed a free concert in Wookey Holes Caves Old Paper Mill, where £394 was collected from a raffle and collection of behalf of: Royal Naval Association, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and The Merchant Navy Association.

It was our privilege to perform this concert and be involved in the commemoration, so we were very humbled to receive this letter of thanks and Certificate of Grateful Recognition from the Chairman of St Cuthbert Out Parish Council.

It’s been a fabulous Christmas Season for Wells City Band.  We have thoroughly enjoyed playing for everyone in the Wells area and bringing a touch of Christmas spirit.  We hope all our friends, families and supporters have had a very happy Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2019.

We will be back rehearsing soon for 2019.  In the meantime take a look at our Christmas photo gallery.
