Wells City Band Academy ended another successful year in traditional style with their Summer Showcase Concert at St Thomas’s Church Hall in Wells.
Our beginners ensemble kicked off the afternoon with a selection of pieces including Mini March, When The Saints and Knights Templar. The Academy Band delighted the audience with a swing themed set including classics; Little Brown Jug, The Cat Came Back and a swing version of In The Hall of the Mountain King. The two groups incredible playing and hard work over the past year has highlighted yet again that the future of Wells City Band is in good hands.
Other highlight performances this year were the Academy’s first ever concert performance on stage with the Main Band at Cedars Hall where they played two sets plus a Christmas concert and carols at a local care home. Thanks to the Academy Musical and Artistic Director Tanya Flagg for her infectious enthusiasm and commitment and to all the Academy Team who work with Tanya throughout the year teaching both adults and children the joy of brass playing.
