Wells City Band main band young cornet players Rudy and Naomi performed as full members of the Somerset County Youth Concert Band at a sell out concert at Cedars Hall in Wells last Sunday. They were performing alongside the best young wind brass and percussion players in the county aged 11-21 including music graduates at university. The programme included the rhythmically demanding Incantation and Dance by John Barnes Chance and the equally challenging A Jubilant Overture by Alfred Reed. Second half of the performance was a blistering affair of hits from films, animations and musicals.
Both Naomi and Rudy came up through the Wells City Band Academy. Along with them both and many other good young players coming through the academy band, a beginners group and already in the main band the future of Wells City Band is a very bright one.
