Wells City Band was honoured and delighted along with our brass band friends from other local bands to take part in a brass band spectacular at The Loft in Street. The event was in memory of our dear friend and brass colleague John Flagg who died last year. Flaggy for many decades was a member and familiar face at all four bands that met at The Loft to remember Flaggy and his contributions to banding and our community. It was wonderful to share the stage with Burtle Silver Band, Wincanton Silver Band and Street Drum and Trumpet. Each band played a 20 minute set, followed by what Flaggy would have loved: a coming together as a mass band of the four bands he played for. The afternoon concluded with an estimated 70 brass and percussion players playing three of Flaggy’s favourite brass band pieces: The Floral Dance, Hootenanny and the deeply moving American Trilogy.
Thank you to The Loft in Street for hosting the event so superbly, all those who organised such a smooth running afternoon and to all our brass band friends across our four bands. It was great to see you all, hear you play and play with you. Maybe we should go it again in 2027?
