We opened our spring and summer concert season at our annual spring concert at Cedars Hall with the classic and iconic sound of swing music that foot tapped its way from Gershwin to Cole Porter to Irving Berlin. A near capacity audience also witnessed history in the making. For the first time in our 186 year history our academy band conducted by Tanya Flagg joined the main band on a professional concert hall stage. A truly memorable concert on many levels. Between the two bands around 50 players performed and who knows next time our beginners group may also join both bands on stage. Following the concert our annual awards took place where the bands were informed of new exciting initiatives that will be taking place from September. More of which to come.
Next up; the main band will be appearing at the Wells City Mayor Making on May 16th, followed by an appearance on the bandstand at the Bath and West Show on the morning of Saturday May 30th and next on to July 4th at Bishops Palace Wells and Party in the Park supporting East 17, Sonia and The Commitments. The academy’s next concert will be their annual end of academic year “chip concert”. Wells City Band are back at Cedars Hall for their annual Christmas concert in December.
