As part of our on going commitment to bring music opportunities for all ages to the local community our Academy Musical Director, and flugelhorn player with the main band Tanya Flagg, recently visited Elmhurst Junior School in Street. Tanya arrived with brass instruments, books and … a jelly!?
Tanya explained how brass instruments work and how we make sound with years 3 & 4. But the jelly? Tanya used this to demonstrate sound waves!
Moving on to years 5 & 6 among other things Tanya mixed it up using a military bugle showing them her own bugle dating back to 1914 as well as a 1914 issue war office bugle and trumpeters handbook.
This coming together of Wells City Band and Elmhurst Junior School was for world music day. If anyone can get something as unmusical as a jelly so successfully into a brass demo it’s Tanya.
Many thanks to all at Elmhurst for their warm welcome and invite.
